Column of Trajan

Column of trajan

The column of Trajan was made of marble. Its 39.83 meters tall.
The column was bulit in honor to Trajan, the emperator, in 113 A. D.

Originally at the top was a statue of Trajan, but now is a statue of St. Peter, that Pope Sixtus V put in 1587.

The relief of sculpture is 600 foot.(180 m) The column represents the story of Trajans military career. But to interprete it you need imagination, and know something about it:

1--bottom - soldiers arrive in boats with Danuvius, river god, there
2--moving up - soldiers get ready for war against Dacians
3--moving up soldiers fight
4--top soldiers win the battle
